He fills her soul full of colors, and she can't imagine the rainbow without him. I sleep at night wishing you loved me back. Why won't you love me back?
Velvet Cheeks

Poem written on October 2nd, 2018
I swear this feeling is true,
when I'm near you my heart jumps;
it hurts, this isn't a familiar feeling.
How can I bare to be near you?
A bright smile on your face
as you laugh at your own jokes.
My face turns a shade of red,
almost like the color of velvet
your favorite ice cream flavor.

EXPLANATION
I wrote this poem with the inspiration of a guy I found very attractive in my American Sign Language class during my freshman year of high school. Although I did not view him romantically, I had his visuals and personality in mind when writing this. I added a romantic twist to it just for the fun of it - I actually had a crush on the guy I wrote about in (My) True Feelings during the time I wrote this poem. I used to sit next to this guy in class and he would always laugh at jokes he made, which would result in me laughing along with him, sometimes so hard I would feel lightheaded. I also have no idea what his favorite ice cream flavor is. I made it up. But he did have ocean-blue eyes, and dirty blonde hair. There also was one time I remember laughing so hard I snorted and he asked if I was okay, so I guess the poem is a bit of a rewrite of a situation I went through with the ASL heartthrob. I eventually stopped talking to him because we got our ASL seats moved, and he also told me a story of how he was playing Fortnite and got drunk with his friends which got me disinterested in him, as I hated underage drinkers. Also, if you look closely at the poem, the bold texting reads out "why won't you love me back", with the last bold being love because why not. Why won't you love me back, love! The reason I chose to add it was because the trend of "she's broken" and "she believed" + sbeve was a thing around this time and the ASL heartthrob often showed me memes of it.

SONG CHOICE
I chose Bad Dog by Neon Hitch as the poem's song representation because this song SLAPS, but I also listened to it almost nonstop around the time I wrote this poem, and probably while I wrote it too. There isn't much correlation to it with this poem since I couldn't think of any other song, but I think the instrumental and vibe overall fits well, just not so much the lyrics. Maybe I'll write a story or poem about a girl and a submissive puppy-like male one day.

You look at me in sudden concern,
asking me if I'm all right.
But of course, I blink,
grasping my cheeks,
feeling like an oven on a high degree.
My eyes look up into your ocean blues,
once again your concern turns back,
into that smile,
that I love.
